February 13, 2009 -- For more than 60 years, the Montefiore Headache Center has been a leader in the field. The MHC was actually the first center in the world dedicated to diagnosing and treating headaches. The MHC also conducts groundbreaking research with innovative treatment methods across the spectrum of headache disorders. MHC offers the services of four neurologists and a clinical health psychologist who are devoted to headache research, diagnosis and treatment.

At the Montefiore Headache Center, we are devoted to a comprehensive approach to diagnosing and treating patients with head and/or facial pain. Whether you experience a headache attack once a month or on a daily basis, we provide a thorough clinical assessment using a variety of diagnostic tests, if needed to create an individualized, comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to treatment and management. We treat adolescents and adults who suffer from various forms of headache.

Dawn C. Buse, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist, the director of psychology at the Montefiore Headache Center (MHC), and an assistant professor in the department of neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology.

Buse conducts research on the emotional, psychological and behavioral aspects of pain and headache, headache epidemiology and women's health. She has written many articles and book chapters on these topics. At the MHC she works with patients to help them better manage their pain and improve the quality of their lives using cognitive-behavioral therapy, biofeedback and stress management techniques.

Brian M. Grosberg, M.D., is an assistant professor of neurology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and director of the Inpatient Headache Program and Headache Fellowship at the Montefiore Headache Center. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is board-certified in headache medicine by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties.

Dr. Grosberg is a member of the American Headache Society, the International Headache Society, the National Headache Foundation, the American Council of Headache Education and the American Academy of Neurology. He serves on the American Headache Society special interest sections for academic affairs, headache classification, inpatient headache, refractory headache and women's issues.

Richard B. Lipton, M.D., is professor and vice chairman of neurology, and professor of epidemiology and population health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He also is the director of the Montefiore Headache Center.

He received his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, completed his neurology residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and was a fellow inneuroepidemiology at Columbia University. Dr. Lipton is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. Dr. Lipton is a Past President of the American Headache Society (AHS), an associate editor of Cephalalgia and is on the editorial boardsof several journals, including Neurology.

He has published more than 400 original articles and reviews, as well as six books. He is a three-time recipient of the H.G. Wolff Award for excellence in headache research from the American Headache Society and is a recipient of the Medical Book Award from the British Medical Association. He is a co-editor of several editions of Wolff's Headache and Other Head Pain.
