FDA Approves Period-Stopping Pill

A drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration promises to be the first of its kind to make "that time of the month" a thing of the past. This afternoon, the FDA approved Wyeth Pharmaceuticals' Lybrel as the first continuous-use drug for the prevention of pregnancy. Its intended use is as a birth control measure, but it also has the side effect of halting women's periods indefinitely.
