— -- David Cameron has confirmed his love of Larry, the cat that lives at 10 Downing Street, the official residence of Britain’s prime minister.

"The rumour is that I don't love Larry. I do. And I have photographic evidence to prove it,” Cameron said, addressing members of Parliament in his last appearance as leader in the House of Commons.

Cameron, who is presenting his resignation to the queen later today, also confirmed that Larry would remain at No. 10 when his successor, Theresa May, moves in.

"Sadly, I can't take Larry with me. He belongs to the house, and the staff love him very much, as do I."

Chief Mouser Larry was spotted earlier in cat-off with Palmerston, a cat that lives at the Foreign Office. BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg caught this late night showdown between the two:

Cameron was in top form during the traditional Prime Minister's Questions, starting off by saying his agenda for the day was remarkably light, apart from his meeting with the queen.

He later did an American accent and compared the leader of the opposition to a character from Monty Python.

In his final words, he told members of Parliament that he would be "willing them on" from the backbenches, because "people come here with huge passion for the issues they care about" and that he was proud of them.
