April 25, 2014— -- A drunk passenger tried to break into the cockpit of a Virgin Australia flight today, an airline official said. The plane landed safely on Indonesia's resort island of Bali, and the passenger was taken into custody.

Heru Sudjatmiko, airport manager for Virgin Australia, told Metro TV on Friday that the passenger was acting aggressively and was handcuffed by the crew.

Virgin Australia released a statement about the situation, saying, "At no point was the safety of the aircraft in question."

"There was a disruptive passenger on board and the pilot notified authorities in advance of landing, as per standard operating procedures," the statement reads.

Initially, the Air Force said the Boeing 737 from Brisbane, Australia, was believed to have been hijacked, but airline officials refuted that speculation.

The plane was carrying 137 passengers and seven crew members. After the plane landed, security crews surrounded the plane. The jet was later taxied away.
