The Zabul Provincial Reconstruction Team, alongside USAID and Afghan partners, reopened the Suri Boys' School in Zabul province in June. The school closed last September after Taliban fighters cut off a schoolteacher's ears. Today, six teachers are working, including the teacher whose ears were chopped off. On the first day, 30 students arrived for class. That number is now nearly 200. (Courtesy USAID)
