Queen Elizabeth as a Baby: Photos Unveiled for her 84th Birthday

April 21, 2010 — -- Britain's Queen Elizabeth II turns 84 today, and to mark the occasion, Windsor Castle is displaying previously unpublished baby photos of the monarch.

The images, some of which can be seen here, show the queen in 1926 and 1927 posing with her parents, then the duke and duchess of York, now George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

Queen Elizabeth celebrates her birthday twice a year, privately on the actual date of her birth, April 21, and publicly on June 12, with a Trooping the Color ceremony.

The two-birthday tradition was started by King Edward VII, born Nov. 9, 1841. The king decided to hold a second ceremony in June, when the weather would be more favorable to a parade.
