Can Camera-Friendly Makeup Help You Take the Perfect Selfie?

— -- Achieving the perfect selfie can be easier said than done.

Sarah Vickery, principal scientist for CoverGirl, said foundation is key to achieving a perfect selfie look.

“I think it's really showing your personality and coming through with your best face and the base is really important to that, so foundation is critical,” she said.

Vickery spent nearly two years in the cosmetic brand’s lab in search of the right foundation for the perfect selfie. The result of those efforts was Outlast Stay Luminous.

Vickery says she went through 43 versions of foundation before hitting upon what is now Outlast Stay Luminous.

“Getting the finish just right was not simple,” Vickery said. “I mean, one lighting condition that would look perfect, then we'd have a flash from taking a selfie and it looked a little too glittery so we had to go back and play with the formula until we got it just right.”

CoverGirl isn’t alone. Smashbox and Avon have also been working on products designed to be more camera friendly.

Joanna Douglas of Yahoo Beauty said the products fill a need.

“This is what girls are looking for,” she said. “They want to look great on camera. They're taking selfies every day and they want to look great.”
