Couple Who Met on Facebook in 2007 Just Got Engaged - at Facebook Headquarters

— -- Steve Kawalit “poked” a stranger who appeared on his timeline on Facebook in 2007. After chatting back and forth for several weeks with that stranger, Nafis Joon, they finally agreed to meet up.

Last week, Kawalit decided to propose to Joon, his girlfriend for the past six years, at the Facebook headquarters.

"It was funny how I jumped on the social network to catch up with long-lost friends and ended up meeting the love of my life," Kawalit told ABC News.

Joon was feeling lucky when she and her boyfriend were offered a private tour at the Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, California. However, her jaw dropped when her boyfriend got down on one knee and pulled out the ring in the middle of the tour.

Joon posted the surprise marriage proposal video on her Facebook page, writing: "What I thought was a private tour inside Facebook’s Headquarters in Menlo Park, was actually an elaborate scheme. Steve, with the help of some Facebook employees, turned Hacker Square into my own surprise proposal!! You got me good Kawalit ... and now you got me for life."

The two were posing for a picture on Hacker Square on the Facebook campus when a Facebook employee asked the two to turn around. The moment Joon turned around, she spotted the words "Nafis, will you marry me?" on a big screen.

She was stunned for a second, then screamed. People started clapping. That's when Kawalit got down on one knee.

"When people ask us how we met, we said through mutual friends," Kawalit said. "Well, today, you meet your mutual friends. Nafis, I love you very much. You are my best friend. Will you marry me?"

Apparently overwhelmed, Joon buried her face in her hands. She nodded, the couple hugged, and Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg showed up. Zuckerberg gave Kawalit a firm handshake, and Sandberg offered Joon a hug.

"I just proposed and she said yes. So we're good," Kawalit said at the end of the video.

"There is no way we would have ever met if it wasn't for Facebook," Joon said.

Kawalit said both Joon and himself were numb after the surprise proposal. He said he had been planning the proposal with Facebook for months, but Zuckerberg and Sandberg's attendance was a complete surprise.

"She was grinning ear to ear, staring at her ring and calling her friends and family," Kawalit said. "I know I had done good."

Kawalit said the couple have decided to begin planning the wedding once they clear their heads.
