Dad Delivers Baby Son in 7-Eleven Parking Lot
A 911 dispatcher walked Allan Su through delivering his son.
— -- There was no time to waste when Liam Su came into the world Tuesday morning.
The now 2-day-old boy was born in the parking lot of an Irvine, Calif., 7-Eleven and came into the world with the added complication of his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.
Liam’s parents, Allan Su and Trisha Huynh, were on their way to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Irvine when Huynh says she could not last any longer.
“Yeah, he asked me to hold on. I said, 'No, I can't hold on anymore - pull over!,'" Huynh told ABC station KABC.
Su pulled over in the closest space possible, which happened to be a 7-Eleven parking lot. He dialed 911 and got on the other end Mishelle Richards, a 20-year veteran who already had 12 over-the-phone baby deliveries under her belt.
"The dispatcher walked me step by step on how to deliver a baby, and she did a wonderful job of guiding me," Su told KABC.
Paramedics arrived soon after Liam entered the world and were able to help with the umbilical cord. They transported Huynh and Liam to Kaiser Permanente Hospital, where Su had been planning on driving his wife all along.
"I was thinking of driving all the way to Kaiser," Su told KABC.
Liam, born a healthy 5 pounds, 8 ounces, joins an older sister, Mila, who is nearly 2-years-old, according to the Orange County Register.
The Huynh and Liam have been discharged from the hospital, a hospital spokesperson told ABC News.
