— -- One of the most iconic pieces of fitness fashion will be up for bid today at Julien's Auctions in Los Angeles as Jane Fonda's unforgettable black and red-striped leotard is up for auction, along with nearly 700 other items from her personal wardrobe.

The two-time, Academy Award-winner's famous outfits, jewelry, home furnishings and mementos from her decades-long Hollywood career will all be sold today at the live and online auction.

"At a certain point in life, you want to pare things down," Fonda, 78, said in a video released by Julien's Auctions. "And that can include things that really come from your heart."

The "Grace and Frankie" star said she held onto the famous leotard she wore on her bestselling workout book and album for so many years because it is "very meaningful" to her

The leotard could sell for a few thousand dollars, "just because Jane wore it," Darren Julien, the auction house's founder and CEO, told ABC News.

"If you or I had too many items, we'd do a garage sale," Julien said. "But when you're Hollywood royalty like Jane Fonda, you do a first-class auction."

Other items up for auction include Fonda's Chanel handbags, a red Atelier Versace gown the actress wore to the 2015 Golden Globes, and the wedding dress and engagement ring from Fonda's marriage to her third husband, media mogul Ted Turner, in 1991.

Bids for Fonda's two-piece Yves Saint Laurent pantsuit she wore while accepting her 1972 Academy Award for "Klute" will start at $6,000.

"I wanted my presence to be somber and make a statement," Fonda told the auction house of the black, wool ensemble. "So I thought the suit was the right move."

Another incredible item on the list is described by the auction house as a "one-of-a-kind Andy Warhol 1982 pop lithograph of Fonda as international sex icon Barbarella." The artwork is expected to sell for as much as $30,000.

"He took off all my makeup off, except my eye makeup, and he covered my face with clown white makeup," Fonda said of the famed artist. "I was appalled."

Fonda's collection also features home furnishings, her collection of folk and American fine art and the necklaces and earrings Fonda wore in the 2005 movie "Monster-in-Law" with Jennifer Lopez.

Some of the items, like a signed script from "On Golden Pond," surprised even Fonda when she discovered them in storage.
