— -- A Oregon man picked up more than fast food at a Taco Bell drive-thru this week -- he got a new house guest.

Bill Detrick had his window down outside the restaurant in Cornelius, Oregon, Thursday when a parakeet landed on his car, according to ABC affiliate KATU-TV in Portland, Oregon. Detrick said when he put his hand out, the bird came over to him and right into his car.

Detrick decided to take the bird home, buying it food and even building a bird house. He told KATU-TV the parakeet never tried to fly away.

"I had the roof of the cage off when I was putting it together, and the bird just jumped right in, and stayed there while I finished it up," he said.

But Detrick's place may just be the bird's temporary home. He hopes to find the parakeet's owner and told KATU-TV he's contacted local vets and animal shelters as part of his search.
