PHOTOS: A Spectacular Wilderness in Chile

In the summer months (the northern winter) twice daily ferry service connects Caleta Gonzalo, the small park center, with the town of Hornopiren. It is a five-hour ferry ride, often in rough waters. There is pressure to extend the highway through Pumalin to create a road connection to Southern Chile. Some Chilean politicians are pushing to expropriate Pumalin land to build the road.
