Best spotted from the air, salmon farms, or "salmoneras," are often in remote locations. The trade group SalmonChile says there are more than 700 farms. Environmentalists say the number is closer to 900. Salmon are not native to the southern hemisphere, but the cool mix of fresh water for spawning and salt water for fattening make conditions ideal for farming. The salmon stock comes from Norway and the Pacific Northwest. (Jeffrey Kofman/ABC News)
