Masaharu Morimoto, a stone-faced master of Japanese fare, competed in the original Japanese version of "Iron Chef." Don't be fooled by the playful diamond stud in his ear: Morimoto is a fierce competitor in Kitchen Stadium. Born in Hiroshima, Morimoto's hopes of playing baseball professionally ended abruptly with a severe shoulder injury. So, Morimoto traded his bat for an arsenal of cooking knives. He moved to the United States, where he was recruited to the kitchen of the renowned New York restaurant Nobu. Morimoto's cuisine blends his Japanese roots with Western and European flavors.
