— -- It’s not every day you see one senator doing push-ups on another’s office floor.

But that’s exactly what happened Wednesday as Florida Sen. Bill Nelson paid off the debt he owed Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin as part of their friendly Stanley Cup wager, after Nelson’s Tampa Bay Lightning lost to Durbin’s Chicago Blackhawks.

Nelson was only supposed to do 23 push-ups — the total number of goals scored during the final series — but he upped the ante to double that in order to avoid going to Tampa to buy Durbin the Cuban sandwiches that were also part of the wager.

The 72-year-old Nelson, a former astronaut, dropped and gave Durbin 46, with the Democratic whip counting each repetition.
