The Washington Redskins selected Heath Shuler, a standout quarterback at the University of Tennessee, in the first round of the 1994 NFL draft, but his career never took off and he retired after three seasons. In 2006 Shuler, a Democrat, was elected as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from his native North Carolina. He left Congress in 2013. (Mitchell Layton/Getty Images)
