Weekend in politics: Romney heads to Israel, and more

The main event this weekend in the Olympic sport of presidential politics is Mitt Romney's overseas trip.

On Friday, Romney continues his London visit where he will meet with Irish Taoiseach Enda Kenny at the Irish Embassy and attend the opening ceremony of the Olympics. But will he avoid more hammering by the British press?

On Saturday, he'll fly to Israel, and then meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and make a speech on Sunday. He'll also meet with President Shimon Peres; Shelly Yechimovich, leader of the opposition Labor Party; Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad; and U.S. Ambassador Dan Shapiro.

Next stop: Poland on Monday.

First lady Michelle Obama also is in London. She is leading the presidential delegation to the opening ceremony. She'll meet with Prime Minister David Cameron's wife Samantha Cameron and attend some Olympic sporting events on Saturday before heading back across the pond Sunday.

President Barack Obama signs theĀ United States-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act on Friday. That's a bill that clears the way for the United States to provide more military equipment to Israel. He'll also do some campaigning in Washington, D.C., and in Virginia.

Also worth noting on Friday: Vice President Joe Biden will attend a fundraiser in Washington, D.C.; Rudy Giuliani will spend another day campaigning in Florida for Romney; and Sen. John Thune will spend another day in Virginia doing the same thing.

Three possible running mates will be out stumping for Romney on Saturday. Sen. Marco Rubio will hold a "Victory Rally" in Nevada; Tim Pawlenty will campaign in North Carolina; and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will be in Florida.

And then there is this: Sunday marks 100 days until presidential election.
