Army Suicides Rise Sharply

The U.S. Army is investigating 24 potential suicides in January, a number six times higher than in January 2008. Seven of the January 2009 cases already have been ruled suicides and an additional 17 are under investigation as potential suicides, the Army reported. The jump in January suicides went public a week after the Army announced there were 128 suicides in 2008, the highest since it began keeping records in 1980.
