Political Scandals

Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, leaves the Senate chamber after making his last formal speech on the Senate floor and listening to tributes from his colleagues Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008. "I only look forward and I still see the day when I can remove the cloud that currently surrounds me," the 40-year veteran of the Senate said. Stevens was convicted of lying on Senate financial disclosure documents to hide more than $250,000 in gifts and services on his home from the head of the now-defunct oil services company, Veco. He conceded defeat to Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich in November's election. Stevens, who is appealing his conviction, has said he will not ask President Bush to pardon his felony convictions.
