Political Scandals
President Bill Clinton's relations with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky famously produced a scandal that shook his presidency during his second term in the White House. Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives in December 1998, and acquitted by the Senate in February 1999. In televised remarks from the White House after the Senate vote, Clinton said, "Now that the Senate has fulfilled its constitutional responsibility bringing this process to a conclusion, I want to say again to the American people how profoundly sorry I am for what I said and did to trigger these events and the great burden they have imposed on the Congress and on the American people."
