For me. Being an Olympic athlete. I was taught -- very young age to always put it. Things in your body that help you perform or thereabouts. And for me my mother being a food science teacher. And of course my missing mother that she was. Always taught us to -- right if healthy it's always good to put it high. Like high octane gasoline into a car she -- -- same thing in your body -- that was something island and that has helped me perform. Better and better and better through my career and to perform the highest level. For me being able to start my foundation. Which is helping kids look healthy and active lifestyles. That's something that's -- a very big passion for me in something that. I've been able -- but subways and help me with them and I've been able to partner -- -- Couple of years now and it's it's been nothing but an amazing amazing partnership. And that is -- I tell you guys -- it means a lot. The stuff you put into your body really helps you perform your best and that's whether it's in the classroom and athletic field whatever. Do you decide it's whatever path you decide to go down it's always a very very very big part. So. With that. I'm -- -- somebody whose commitment to healthy eating and living inspires people all over the country each and every day. The first lady of the United States. And US -- as I am starving. Any great if you're ready for that. It is a pleasure to be here to there -- start by thanking Michael for that theory kind introduction but more importantly for everything. That he is due in the make sure that kids like you grow up healthy that you eat healthy and stay active. So that your brains work write your bodies were right you can live -- -- your parents. Okay but thank you Michael we're thrilled -- -- that he could join us along with Justin Tuck and -- not steal -- who are here is well they're gonna help fix our sandwiches -- you're going to be able to meet a couple of other great athletes. Who believe in eating healthy as well. But more importantly thank you parents from being here today is they're -- On. This now so how did you get to come here. They took the bus. We are glad that you're here and aren't staying warm I hope right. Okay okay well let me let me talk about a few things before we eat -- mineral get to -- okay. I wanna recognize Jim Gavin -- -- -- -- I heard you out here Jim hey Jim how are you. Thank you -- -- pictured doing with the partnership for healthier America. And of course most of all I wanna see huge thank you to. Suzanne Greco and every one here at subway for making the state possible. For years subway's been providing meals that are healthy. But also eat the tasty and affordable. Right parents. And today -- -- -- new initiatives subway is once again stepping up to provide even more healthy choices for families. The new fresh fit for kids meals here at subway are a terrific example. What a kids' menu should look like. And that's because the subway is offering all kinds of healthy options for kids. Instead had every single and worrying about whether what's on the item is on the -- actually healthy. What you can do with this meal that you know that every single item on the kids' -- meets the highest nutrition standards. From the -- dairy products to the fresh fruits and veggies to the non sugary beverages. So this is a big deal which is one of the reasons why we're here and I have to tell you that I'm excited about this initiative for a couple of reasons first pick -- -- First Lady had been. Of course you guys know -- you come help me with my garden we would do and let's move. But I'm also excited about this is a -- -- -- your parents are. Because -- at the time in my life and I was like a regular pair. And for me Saturday it and it's a little different now I have to admit. But I remember on Saturday I would spend the entire Saturday. Driving my kids -- -- is that which you're still -- out of the -- Saturday at basically a chauffeur. Driving girls from dance class soccer and -- somebody our state party. Somewhere on the other side of town that's what I -- Dylan and hardly ever. It's -- organizational skills to think ahead and snacks. Sometimes -- remember the -- but I definitely never remember to pack lunch. So there we be on our -- second -- third activity. I don't know how you feel passes -- -- you think somebody. That's how you -- -- I'm hungry. And you heard that voice before and then suddenly think oh man. What a -- and about lunch we don't have time to go back. But these kids need some -- and I don't make it through the day without food. And what had happened I didn't have the time to -- all the way home my -- and -- something close nearby. Something that would be quick and affordable and -- are also offer. I'm my kids some decent nutritious options that was the -- part for me work go where -- -- would be certain. That what the kids would order would be a decent and healthy. Meal for them. And that's really why the is new initiatives at subway are so important because they make it easy for parents like us. To do the right thing by -- kids. With the choices on subway's kids' menu. You don't have to argue with your kids about what they can and can't -- How many people argue with -- parents when they go on or restaurant aren't -- parents are trying to get you to order some -- and yelling and let it. -- -- an -- then and then your argument if parents. But here at -- you don't have to. Notices -- -- the I think you can pretty much guarantee when they go to the -- -- -- that anything -- order is going to be right on par and that helps us. You can let loose and no matter what age -- from the kitchen and menu you know it's going to be good for them. And with the -- -- powered by -- campaign. The thing -- isn't just healthy for kids it's also fun because it lets. The kids take control that's at eight nipping at my kids like to -- they liked it. Think that they were in control -- everything may. So essentially get any opportunity to pick out what we expect want and what what they want on the sandwiches that makes them feel like. They're in control in kid you guys like controlled -- -- Especially -- fourth fifth grade did you like control. Lets them choose which veggies they went up pile on in. What -- do things they want on -- sandwiched and so all the kids here today. I want -- also at -- what Michael's. Earlier about. The importance of eating right in making. Not just because that will make you. It's -- actually help you make your -- work better and that series I don't know how many kids are athletes are. Or who -- dancers who were terrorists who want to do something important with Aaron their their bodies. What you eat what you put into it makes a huge difference just as Michael said. So it don't look because you want -- -- mom happy do it because you want to make yourself happy he would've put yourself in a position would be excellent. Not just what you -- physically but what you do at school. Michael mentioned that what you eat at school absolutely affects. How. Will you brain works. And that's the truth you see it or know it right now but it absolutely does so is so important to you guys to make good choices about what you eat. So that you move well. And you study hard and you can do great things. And all of that goes for the adults in the room to. This isn't just about -- we know that how we eat affects. How we feel and how much energy we have. To deal with he. Right. That's why this new initiative isn't desperate it's and that's something that keep in mind adults. We can pile -- -- we can make the choices about what we eat we have some flexibility so that we can actually feel comfortable with our kids when we take them out. -- there's always some healthy option no matter what you do in your life that's why this initiative is good for adults. And -- that you want to treat every -- while the beauty about subways that you can still. Order that meatball -- because it's still on the -- And that's the beauty of what's going on here it's up what you have choices. You can still indulge every now and then and get that -- but -- almost -- -- is on it. And when you wanna play it right you have an option of doing something that's more healthy as well. But there are also plenty of healthy options to choose from and even better -- isn't just offering healthy choices this -- the thing -- like. They're putting real money -- nine marketing. These two racist -- They're actually working to get kids excited about eating their vegetables. And I know we get excited about doing -- -- system we can market a lot of things to kids but one of the things that I've been urging companies to do. And I did this last fall in our White House summit on food marketing to children I asked companies to stop targeting kids with ads for unhealthy products. And start. Doing more to promote healthy products. And I am thrilled that subway. Is one of the first companies. That answered this call. By starting these initiatives and that's wonderful congratulations. I -- For all that you're -- -- step up on behalf of our kids but of course and I think in the end it's not enough. Just for subway. To simply offer and market. These healthy options. As parents consumers actually. -- -- by these products. That's the ticket. The trick is we've got to put our money. Where we want. Products to go. When companies the right thing like subway when they give us the healthy options we've been asking for we need to vote with our wallets. That's how we need to send a clear message that this is what we want for our families. And that's how we -- even more fresh food in our communities because when companies see -- by the stuff. -- keep making their art it is and what people want. And ever gonna stop but we want -- -- is buying stuff. That's not healthy. So now that we -- options we've got to step up and show companies like subways and others other companies that if you make it. Will -- So when that I -- close by once again banking -- for everything. The are doing on behalf of kids and families and in the coming months I hope that businesses across the country. Will take -- in -- how to. Make some changes in their menus that will help. Kids in our communities grow up -- Are right. -- that are you Grady. Who's coming in order -- sandwich. Let's -- Let's --
