Transcript for Newt Gingrich Speaks After Georgia Primary Win
You know. So amazing. I hope they analysts. The end of Washington and New York. -- spend June and July explaining our campaign was dead. We'll watch this tonight and learn a little bit. From this crowd. And from this. Police arrived. The national league's effort to kill us in the summer. Because -- you because people -- We are not. Going to allow. You leads to decide who we are allowed to nominees. And so -- your house. Thousands and thousands of people came to -- -- -- -- -- -- We survived. The two most difficult months. Of a career which goes back to August of 1950. In June July were really hard and was precisely because. The National League especially in the Republican Party and decided that -- Gingrich presidency was so frightening. That they had to -- literally. You wouldn't let them do it. -- -- -- And the power of large solutions. And big ideas. And clear communications in the debates. By December. According to Gallup I was a front runner by fifteen points and according to Rasmussen I was a former 121 points because you believed. In the power of ideas you believe. That people can make a difference. That it tracked Wall Street money can be beaten my main street work. And of course at that point Wall Street money decided. That only a relentlessly negative five million dollar campaign in Iowa would work. And they did reduce my support from 36 to 14%. And three weeks of unrelenting negative. And once again -- -- I guess this is over finally. But you also. And I. And I had the very depths of the establishment. Rejecting him. Thousands of more people came to -- and or design. And the result was -- South Carolina. We won a historic victory -- 43 out of 46 counties. And I'm pretty sure that tonight. We have a number of the south Carolinians who helped those women who are here who came over. To help celebrate this great -- -- -- The forces of Wall Street -- -- now they were in real trouble. And as a -- times reported later they held a meeting on Sunday morning after a Saturday night. Primary and they said we have to destroy Gingrich. One of them was even quoted an. I would expect Obama's people to do that but I thought as its hand much and having spent my entire career building the Republican Party. And so they piled on twenty million dollars -- release of negativity in Florida and we ourselves and we carried all of north Florida. An interest in -- everywhere we -- When we won the full line -- When Wall Street won the vote went down. Those are things are pretty -- for this fall this weekend over the Wall Street -- At that point. Once again they began to say well maybe he's going. And then frankly. Senator Santorum is selling very well. -- -- just three states nobody else was them. Anyone. And the news media once again desperate to prove Gingrich's bonds and his. Now we have the person who's going to be in -- Romney. Now -- and I -- each other. Check -- Jimmie and Chad -- -- My two. Debate coaches -- her. I would save for. Performances they get out of me. The most under McCain debate coaches and I. Although they'll -- talking about that later on issues. But in any event we look did you there was you know. Remember when it was Jim Valenti who was gonna crowd -- And remember then when it was Michelle Bachmann. And then it was a good friend Herman Cain the first time. And then for a brief moment it was Donald Trump almost. And then -- was our good friend repairing. An analyst Herman Cain the second time and now Santorum. And you just you wait -- -- assume it's all right. There are lots of money rallies around July and the -- -- just take one step. It. And I have always try to be very candid sometimes it gets in trouble but on balance I think as I wanna live now -- do them. And so I said -- -- -- It's a very. Yes I can't carry my home state where people know me and I would have no credibility. And I knew the basic Wall Street certainly -- to -- in his in laws and how many you've noticed -- negative ads. How he noticed the wounded Reagan negative -- that is a total lie. I mean that's that's what we're up against. There's one thing we have lots of money is the line was among and so I don't drive I you know let's go home -- How wrong bus lines crisscross the state. -- and -- -- great help Lansing governor deal did a tremendous job. Herman -- stepped up to them. -- and were very very hard. Todd -- Phone calls and really help communicate but there was a candidate who ought to be helped. The fact is in Tennessee Fred Thompson was just tremendously helpful. And in Oklahoma JC watts is extraordinary. And so we basically what people are up against money -- And as you saw the very first -- they called tonight. Fifteen seconds after the polls close. Has so I'm here first of all to say thank you teach everyone you. Because you are the reason we survived every effort on the establishment to stop. Now. Being here and the Waverly. Brings back many memories. And 1994. This is where we learned. That's for the first time in forty years. There would be a Republican speaker of the house. And you know for that entire campaign. -- -- saw we were crazy. First -- -- we ran a positive campaign we had a contract with America. They just thought that was -- why why would you go to all that trouble. Have all these ideas. We didn't spend -- time on lots and lots of negative ads. This maritime. Communicating -- hope to the American people. The result was the largest one party increase in an off -- in American history. -- the American people want. A chance to have hope again. So -- is -- tomorrow will bring another chapter. In the race -- nomination. It's more than a chapter in the race for the nomination. -- after a fight for the soul of the Republican Party -- -- chapter in the fight for the very nature of America. Chapter in defining who we are as a people. And let me be very clear. I believe. I am the one candidate. Who has the ability to debate Barack Obama decisive. It. And let me be straight. I think I don't believe the Romney's me. Of outspending your opponent for a 521 with a negative ads. Will work against Barack Obama because there is no possibility that any Republican is gonna outrage the incumbent president actually. Therefore you can follow that strategy. What you have to have a somebody who knows what they believe. Understands how to articulate its kinds -- all the media. Offsets -- bias of the elite media who are desperate to reelect the president. And as the -- -- -- the president -- on every single time he's wrong. Well. We run out very frugal campaign and we couldn't afford one. -- I've already promised that if the president will agree to. 73. Hour debates in the Lincoln Douglas division. He can use a teleprompter. He wants. -- -- -- -- -- you don't know that in the morning and we're going on it. To Alabama. We're going on to Mississippi. And that's just this week. Because actually had until this afternoon is starting off our Alabama efforts and and I -- -- all of any -- you friends anywhere in the country you can email them. If -- imposed on FaceBook something as simple best news he's close to fifty -- gallon gasoline. Highs you can go to Twitter and quarter end cash today to fifty gas. Mean we run a very inexpensive very straightforward reach every single person campaign. I was -- gave you one example. Of how profoundly different we are both from the other candidates and the president one that I wouldn't love to debate this president of and that still on the number of your holdings. Signs -- I want us to have. An American. Energy policy. -- no president will ever again -- to a Saudi king. And I want you to imagine the debate this law. The president was right -- today he's he's so nervous about. Gasoline prices and energy that. He's on two major speeches and I thought today. And one of the most shallow and self serving comments by a president that I heard a long time. He was candid in his press conference. He said you know I'm really worried about higher gas prices. Because. He'll make it harder for -- easier realized. I did not make this -- It was just nice to know that the president once again. Has managed to take the pain of the American people and turned it into his own personal problem. Now. The fact is. I'd love to debate this president because when you read these -- They're so deliciously -- -- Harris. They they are the perfect case study of liberalism run a -- The president says. The Republicans have three strategies. Strategy number one is drilling. Strategy number two is drilling. Strategy chemistry Israel and I don't -- Mr. President. This is one of the rare occasions when I can say you are right. But the president had an alternative to growing -- -- like debating him would be. Just one of those moments where you can also -- for -- The president said we have to be practical drilling won't solve it. And then he offered his practical solution anybody remember Illinois. I mean I think this summer as gas prices Chiba. One of our campaigns -- we have people go to gas stations. With a jar of out. And say -- people would you rather have. The Gingrich solution of drilling and having more oil or would you like to try to put this yes. I mean you can't I'm amazed that Saturday Night Live hasn't taken that speech. And turned into his -- me you can't make this Oklahoma. But what made it really -- actually totally and so Aaron. Was -- president literally two pages after explains that drilling doesn't work. The president explains -- had this great breakthrough a natural gas. That we now have thanks to new technology. Over a hundred years supply of natural gas. Then acting -- increased 600000. New jobs the next day came out of -- games. And I'm still waiting for one of the reporters at the warehouse to come out of there comatose -- elect Obama's stance. And asked the following question. How long does the president think. We discovered in the natural gas. Because of course the answer is. I came up with this specific proposals -- -- -- That there could be a better future in practical terms so I proposed two dollars and fifty cents a gallon -- our goal. -- I have to say my daughter Jackie was off campaigning as Herman Cain. And after two days of campaigning -- determined she came back to ranges you know maybe we should change that. -- -- should be. 2.4 999. -- credit -- said no. That will not work as a marketing device stick stick -- 25. Which -- this is America. So I -- two dollars and fifty cents a actually connected by asking the oil experts. What's a price -- would you wouldn't have continuous aspiration. Because my goal is your energy independence shall we are free of the Middle East. And the Iranians practiced closing the straits of Hormuz through which one out of every five barrels of oil in the world -- The short term answers the US navy in the US air force. And the ultimatum. The closing the -- would be an act of war and their government would cease to exist. But the long term solution. Disagree American energy independence. So we could say that China India and Europe. You have a problem in the straits -- was. We hope you can solve it. Where are not charged. Now. Fact is. -- 250s attainable. Governor Romney came in -- -- is that I was pandering. -- -- -- -- And I just -- explain to the governor know this is called leading. Leaders create large goals. Leaders create a vision of a better future. Leaders -- aroused the American people to go out and do great things leaders believe. The American people could easily achieve energy independence. If that government well -- So if your friends. Ask you why we're -- Criticizing. Two dollars and fifty cents and as a practical first of all you can coming at a news dot -- We have there and entire thirty minute speech which outlines why it is doable and -- practical. Wrote a book called drill here drill now pay less -- 2008 plus -- movie called we have the power in this is clearly doable. But in addition point out three numbers the the price of gasoline when I was speaker. Thousand dollars thirteen. The price of gasoline when Barack Obama. Became president. Was -- -- 89. All this gigantic increase. Came from his policy. Finally. Remember the natural gas story the president so proud of we have now developed so much natural gas businesses that supply is -- running the man. And the price has fallen from 798. Seven. To. Around two dollars and 86 cents. And translate that as a percentage decline and this is by the way was an 11% increase in production. They have an eleven -- they haven't got any 120 represented but an 11% increase in production suddenly changed the whole equation of supply and demand. Now if you're in the same experience. -- -- -- You would end up fast. The dollar and thirteen when it wasn't as big -- to fifty. There's a long way from a radical number 250 is a practical and cautious. Doable number. And my goal in the next few reasons to drive home to every American. We don't have to be trapped in -- department of anti energy. We don't have to be trapped within EPA which destroys jobs. We don't have to be trapped when the president. Who refuses to build the Keystone Pipeline. Refuses to reopen the golf. Refuses to develop. -- -- -- We're gonna get enough people to come to news dot org and sign up we have -- 173000. Donors already us. 95%. Of them -- less than 250 dollars. We have a place in -- command and give one -- -- this -- those positions. Get excited and give 200 gallons -- -- -- -- -- -- We're going to go on to Tampa and win the nomination. And thank you good luck and god bless you.
