Allonzo Trier commits to Arizona
— -- Arizona has secured a commitment from Allonzo Trier, arguably the most potent scorer in Class of 2015.
"My relationship with Coach [Sean] Miller and the way they recruited me was the difference," Trier told ESPN.com while on a weekend visit to Tucson. "It's a family program, a players program. I just fell in love with everything."
Trier (No. 19 in the ESPN 100) grew up in Seattle but moved to Oklahoma City in the eighth grade. He attended Montrose Christian (Maryland) last season and is set to transfer to Findlay Prep (Las Vegas) this year.
The 6-foot-4 Trier led the prestigious Nike Peach Jam in scoring at 30.8 points per game in July -- and also averaged 29.4 points in the Nike EYBL. He was recruited by a plethora of elite programs and told ESPN.com that he ultimately chose the Wildcats over Washington, UCLA, Kansas and Louisville.
Trier will likely have an integral role as a freshman as Arizona is expected to lose freshman wing Stanley Johnson and sophomore forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson after this season. Junior big men Kaleb Tarczewski and Brandon Ashley could also depart for the NBA, and point guard T.J. McConnell is a senior.
"I think the fit is perfect," Trier said. "They expect me to come in and do a lot. I want to get the team to the Final Four and win a national championship."
Trier is a dynamic scorer who is extremely aggressive in getting to the basket -- and can also knock down shots from beyond the arc.
Trier joins two more Arizona commits in the Class of 2015 who also rank in the top 30 -- 6-foot-5 point guard Justin Simon (No. 23 in ESPN 100) and 6-foot-7 wing Ray Smith (No. 26 in ESPN 100), who recently tore his ACL.
