— -- Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty, who guides the nation's most potent offense, says he will return for his senior season with the Bears.

"I will definitely be back next year," Petty told reporters earlier this week.

Petty, who has 28 touchdown passes to just two interceptions in his first season as a starter, is second to Florida State's  Jameis Winston in passing efficiency. He ranks third in Total QBR.

The No. 9 Bears (10-1, 7-1 Big 12) lead the nation with 635.1 yards and 55.4 points per game. They close their regular season against Texas (8-3, 7-1) in Waco.

Baylor would win the Big 12 and qualify for a BCS bowl bid if it beats Texas on Saturday and No. 6 Oklahoma State loses to Oklahoma.

For the season, Petty has thrown for 3,557 yards. He also has rushed for 168 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Under coach Art Briles' up-tempo attack, Baylor is second to Oregon with 96 plays of 20-plus yards. No FBS team has more plays of 30-plus (53) and 40-plus yards (36) than the Bears.
