— -- The Arizona Cardinals are so impressed with running back Chris Johnson that they had discussions with him this week about a contract extension, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

No deal is imminent, however.

Monday night's performance against the Baltimore Ravens was just the latest chapter in Johnson's revival this season. He ran for 122 yards and an impressive 26-yard touchdown run on 18 carries in the Cardinals' 26-18 victory.

Entering Sunday, he has 567 rushing yards through seven games -- the second-most in the NFL -- which is only 96 fewer than he had all of last season with the New York Jets.

Johnson has said he isn't thinking about extending his one-year contract -- or at least won't discuss it publicly.

Before this season, Johnson said he was contemplating retirement after getting shot in the shoulder in early March in his hometown of Orlando, Florida. For almost three months after the shooting, Johnson couldn't use his right hand.
