— -- New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin has been told he will be back in 2015, but he has a meeting with owner John Mara at 3 p.m. ET Monday to discuss potential coaching staff changes, a source said.

This year's team started off well after an offseason overhaul and the installation of a new offense under first-year coordinator Ben McAdoo. But after a 3-2 start, the Giants lost seven games in a row to tumble out of contention and miss the playoffs for the third straight year.

The Giants went 6-10 this year, their second straight losing season.

Coughlin took over for Jim Fassel in 2004, the year the Giants drafted quarterback Eli Manning. The team went 6-10 that year -- a season in which Manning got a midyear promotion from his role as backup to veteran Kurt Warner and took his lumps as a rookie quarterback. After that, Coughlin, Manning and the Giants reached the playoffs four years in a row from 2005-08, and the 2007 team won a Super Bowl title by upsetting the undefeated New England Patriots.

Four years later, after two playoff-free seasons, the Giants managed to win the NFC East with a 9-7 record by winning their final two games of the season. Once again, they swept their way through the playoffs and defeated the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.

Coughlin is one of 13 coaches to win the Super Bowl more than once.
