— -- Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez will undergo surgery Jan. 4 to repair the fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot, the team announced Saturday.

Lopez has already been ruled out for the season. Further information will be released after the surgery, the team said.

The 25-year-old Lopez suffered the injury Dec. 20 in Philadelphia. He ended the 2013-14 campaign with averages of 20.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks on 56.3 percent shooting in 17 games.

Kevin Garnett has moved over to center with Lopez out, while the Nets primarily have started Mirza Teletovic at power forward.

Lopez's injury was a devastating blow to the Nets, who entered the season with championship aspirations but have won just 10 of their first 29 games.

Lopez previously fractured the same fifth metatarsal in December 2011 and later had a screw replaced in it this past offseason.
