— -- INDIANAPOLIS -- Drew Brees needed less than one quarter of preseason action to prove he's ready for the regular season.

The New Orleans Saints quarterback threw two touchdown passes during three first-quarter drives while making his preseason debut against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday night. Then Brees hit the bench for the rest of the night -- and likely the rest of the preseason.

Brees, who missed the Saints' first two preseason games while recovering from a strained oblique, completed nine of 15 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns, one to fullback Austin Johnson on the opening drive and another to receiver Marques Colston.

Brees also ran 10 yards for a first down on a third-and-8 play -- probably not the wisest decision in an exhibition game, but further evidence that Brees is feeling healthy and limber.
