J.D. Martinez breaks elbow in collision with wall

— -- KANSAS CITY -- Detroit Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez exited Thursday night's game against the Kansas City Royals with a non-displaced fracture of the right elbow. He is scheduled to undergo a CT scan on Friday.

The 28-year-old right fielder suffered the injury when he ran into the corner in right field while attempting to make a play on Royals OF Paulo Orlando's triple in the bottom of the second inning.

Both Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand and manager Brad Ausmus ran out to check on the 2015 Silver Slugger, who led the team with 38 runs. Martinez appeared to be favoring his right arm or shoulder before exiting the field.

Andrew Romine entered the game as the Tigers' defensive substitution, playing center field while shifting Justin Upton to left field and Mike Aviles in right field.

The Tigers are already down one outfielder, with centerfielder Cameron Maybin sidelined with tightness in his left quadriceps muscle.

Martinez is batting .287 for the Tigers this season with 12 home runs and 39 RBI.
