Jimmy Smith, Ray Rice exit game

The Baltimore Ravens watched two starters leave the field with injuries in the first half of Saturday's preseason game at the Dallas Cowboys.

Cornerback Jimmy Smith bruised his chest on the opening series, and running back Ray Rice injured his shoulder.

X-rays to both Smith's chest and Rice's shoulder were negative. Neither returned to the game.

"It shouldn't be anything too serious," coach John Harbaugh said of Rice's injury

Smith was injured when he elevated to defend Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant along the sideline. He landed on his back and then spit blood on the field. Dominique Franks replaced Smith and was quickly beaten by Bryant for a 31-yard touchdown, the Cowboys' first score of the night.

Smith's injury is the latest for the Ravens at cornerback. Lardarius Webb (back), Asa Jackson (ankle) and Aaron Ross (Achilles) are all sidelined with injuries, however Smith seems to have avoided any major injury.

"He should be fine, too," Harbaugh said.

Rice, who didn't start, was injured on the Ravens' second series. He had 21 yards on two carries before walking into the locker room.

The Ravens started Bernard Pierce at running back because Rice is suspended for the first two games of the regular season.
