— -- Kevin Ware is leaving Louisville.

Ware, who gained national attention nearly a year ago to the day when he suffered a gruesome broken leg in a win over Duke in the Elite Eight will transfer to another school to finish his career.

"We wish Kevin Godspeed," said Louisville coach Rick Pitino.

Ware made an emotional return on Nov. 6 in an exhibition contest against the University of Pikeville in which he made his first shot, a 3-pointer. Then he scored five points in 13 minutes against Cornell on Nov. 15 in his regular-season return.

Ware averaged just 1.7 points in nine games before suffering an injury to the same right leg in a game against Missouri State on Dec. 17. He decided to shut it down, so he would be able to seek a medical redshirt.

Ware was a reserve guard backing up Russ Smith and Peyton Siva, but he received national attention after he broke his leg landing awkwardly while attempting to block a shot in the win over Duke. He was carried off the floor on a stretcher and eventually had a rod inserted in the leg.

Ware is hoping to transfer somewhere closer to his family in Georgia, and po Ware once committed to new Auburn coach Bruce Pearl at Tennessee.
