Klay Thompson practices ahead of Thursday's Game 1

— -- OAKLAND -- Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson practiced Monday for the first time since he suffered a concussion in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals.?

Asked in a SportsCenter interview after practice how he feels on a scale of 1 to 10, Thompson said: "About a 9.5. Actually, no, a 9. Couple more days to get completely right, and I expect to be fully healthy and compete on Thursday."

Thompson, though, ?won't be cleared for Thursday's NBA Finals Game 1 until his condition is assessed Tuesday morning, according to team spokesman Raymond Ridder.

During Monday's practice, Thompson was able to participate in five-on-five basketball as well as shooting and defensive drills, saying "I did everything."

He also insisted to a group of reporters that his only bad night from the injury was Wednesday, when he absorbed the inadvertent knee in the head from Houston Rockets forward  Trevor Ariza.

Yet he is well aware that full clearance to take his usual spot in the Warriors' starting lineup alongside Steph Curry in Thursday night's Finals opener against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers can come only if he passes Tuesday's follow-up examinations with team doctors.

?"I'm extremely confident," Thompson said. "I'd be very shocked if I didn't [pass], so I'm really confident I will, and like I said, I feel like I'm well on my way there. I can't give you any promises, but I'm as confident as you can be.?"

According to the league's concussion protocol, Thompson must be checked out and found to be suffering from no after-effects following his first practice before he can be cleared to play.

Thompson scoffed at the notion that he and Curry, after the hard hits they took in the Houston series, will be playing at a diminished capacity against the Cavs.

?"It's the Finals," Thompson said. "We didn't work this hard not to come here and compete. You know, we've only got four or seven games left ... so we can do that for the next two weeks. I'm confident we will. We worked too hard not to."
