— -- NEW YORK -- New York Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis left Thursday's 111-104 win over the Brooklyn Nets in the third quarter because of a left knee injury.

Porzingis suffered the injury early in the third quarter. It appeared to be a noncontact injury. He asked out of the game immediately after suffering the injury, which occurred while defending Brooklyn's? Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek said Porzingis originally tweaked his knee in the first half and it bothered him again in the third quarter. Doctors will look at Porzingis again Friday. It was unclear if he'll get an X-ray or MRI exam.

Porzingis says that he isn't in significant pain at the moment and it's a good sign that he's standing on his own. He's uncertain about facing? Carmelo Anthony and the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday?but he says he'll know more after being examined on Friday.

Any time missed by Porzingis would be a significant blow to the Knicks. The 22-year-old entered play Thursday averaging 26 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks and was a key reason New York was one game over .500 entering the game against Brooklyn.

Porzingis sat out two games earlier this season because of a sprained right ankle.
