"I'm just really proud of, you know, the effort that I've made," Williams said. "Sometimes you lose a match. At least if I lose a match it's a rough fight [for] my opponent. They don't get it easy."
After the match, Errani addressed the crowd. The Italian is an engaging player, and she was asked if she'd looked ahead at the draw to see Williams.
"Everybody looks at the draw," she admitted and laughed.
When she looked again, she saw that Halep, the No. 2 seed, has been replaced by the unseeded Lucic-Baroni.
"I know her," Errani said. "She hitting very strong. [It] is not easy to play against her for that, because she hit that ball really strong. [It] is not easy to move, to play."
"So for the moment relax, be happy for today."
