Maggie Voisin out with ankle injury

— -- American freestyle skier Maggie Voisin will not compete in Tuesday's Olympic slopestyle debut after she injured her right ankle in a fall on a rails section while training Friday.

Voisin, 15, from Whitefish, Mont., was the youngest member of Team USA scheduled to compete at the Sochi Games and the youngest American Winter Olympian since 1972.

She was the second U.S. skier to be ruled out of the Games in as many days after moguls hopeful Heidi Kloser suffered a leg injury before qualification began Thursday.

Doctors determined Voisin could not recover in time for Tuesday's competition, and she will not be replaced in her only event of the Games.

"Maggie distinguished herself as one of the top slopestyle athletes in the world in qualifying for Team USA," Luke Bodensteiner, executive vice president for athletics for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, said in a statement. "We're disappointed for her in being unable to start but have great respect for what she accomplished to get here. Unfortunately there is not sufficient time to seek a replacement and have that athlete properly prepare for Tuesday's competition."

Voisin was considered a medal contender in Sochi. She won the silver medal in women's slopestyle at X Games Aspen 2014 last month by delivering a switch 1080.

She was a discretionary pick for Team USA.

The Extreme Park course has come under fire by some riders in the run-up to the Olympics, with American snowboarder Shaun White pulling out of the snowboard slopestyle competition earlier in the week after jamming his wrist.
