Nick Saban: 'I'm opposed to an unauthorized biography'

— -- TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama coach Nick Saban is not a fan of unauthorized biographies, whether they're written about him or anyone else.

Unprompted by the media at a news conference Thursday, Saban used the floor to address the subject, which hits close to home, given the recent release of Monte Burke's book, "Saban: The Making of a Coach."

"Now I'm going to make a statement about something because I thought surely you would ask," Saban said. "So this will be the last time this ever gets talked about. So no one ever needs to ask me because I'm going to tell you to pull it up on your little computer or Facebook or Twitter or whatever you do.

"I just want everybody to know that I'm opposed to an unauthorized biography -- for anybody. All right, and I think that's some person that you don't even know trying to profit by your story or someone else's story."

In the book, Burke details Saban's departure as head coach of the  Miami Dolphins in 2006, his arrival at  Alabama the following season and his alleged flirtation with the  Texas coaching job in 2013, among other things.

An excerpt of the book detailing the Longhorns' pursuit of Saban was recently released by The New York Times.

At a booster club event Tuesday, Saban, who was not quoted in the excerpt,  gave his side of the story, saying in part that his agent, Jimmy Sexton, had called him "about 15 times about Texas, and every time he called I said I'm not interested in talking to them, and I never will be."

Saban signed a contract extension with the Crimson Tide in December 2013.

"One of these days when I'm finished coaching at Alabama, I'll write an authorized book," Saban said at Thursday's news conference. "Because there's really only one expert on my life, and guess who that is? Me. And there won't be any misinformation, there won't be any false statements, there won't be any hearsay, there won't be any expert analysis from somebody else. It will be the real deal.

"But I'm not really ready for that to happen. And you know, it's a little amazing to me the timing of all this happening right when we're starting camp. I just want everybody out there and all our fans to know it won't be a distraction to us, and it's never going to get discussed again.

"But since I'm not finished yet at Alabama, we're not writing any books yet. But when we decide to write an authorized book, it will have the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth."

Saban, 63, is entering his ninth season as head coach at Alabama.
