In 1984's "The Karate Kid," Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita), a wise karate master, agrees to teach a young boy how to use martial arts to fight back against bullies, which turns out to include as much mental training as physical exertion. Mr. Miyagi teaches the "kid" (Ralph Macchio) to use his mental strength to prove himself on the mat, rather than use his physical strength on the street. (Sipa)
