— -- Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins is experiencing discomfort in his surgically repaired left foot that could affect his availability for upcoming games, the New York Daily News reported Monday.

The newspaper reported that doctors have advised Watkins against having a second surgery on his foot. The third-year wide receiver missed all of organized team activities, June minicamp and the first week of training camp after undergoing a procedure in the spring to repair a fracture.

Watkins, who was not listed on the injury report last week, played 42 snaps Sunday in the Bills' season-opening loss to the Baltimore Ravens, catching four passes for a team-high 43 yards. He declined to speak to reporters after the game.

The Daily News reported that X-rays following the game did not show any broken bones in Watkins' foot, and that doctors consider his availability in upcoming games to be a pain management issue. The newspaper said that Watkins "could be shut down for several weeks."

Coach Rex Ryan is expected to address Watkins' injury at his Monday news conference as the Bills begin preparations for their Thursday night game against the New York Jets.

Watkins, the fourth overall pick in 2014, has battled numerous injuries over his career. After missing offseason activities last year because of hip surgery, Watkins missed three regular-season games because of a calf injury, and later, an ankle injury.
