LOS ANGELES -- Baseball has now witnessed its first triple play on a double-replay review. The Cleveland Indians managed the feat in the fourth inning Tuesday night of their 10-3 win at Dodger Stadium.
Gomes threw him out there on a close play, Puig going in headfirst and Jason Kipnis tagging him on the arm.
Puig initially was ruled safe, but Indians manager Terry Francona challenged and the play was overturned. As soon as that was decided, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly jogged out to challenge the play at the plate. After a short review, that play was upheld.
The last Indians triple play came April 3, 2011 against the Chicago White Sox. The last time the Dodgers hit into one was Aug. 15, 2011. The Dodgers turned one on the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium on April 15, 2012.
