— -- EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. --  Ryan Fitzpatrick's time on the New York Jets' bench didn't last long.

The slumping Fitzpatrick, benched earlier this week in favor of Geno Smith, entered Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens in the second quarter to replace Smith, who was taken to the locker room with a right knee injury.

Fitzpatrick promptly led the Jets on a seven-play scoring drive, capped off with a 13-yard touchdown pass to  Matt Forte.

Smith, starting his first game since Dec. 28, 2014, went down awkwardly on a third-down sack by Matt Judon. Smith was examined on the sideline by doctors and left for the locker room a couple of minutes later.

The Jets announced that Smith's return is questionable. He has completed 4 of 9 passes for 95 yards, including a 61-yard touchdown to Quincy Enunwa. The score came on a 7-yard pass, but Enunwa outraced the Ravens' defense to the end zone.

Jets coach Todd Bowles announced Wednesday that he was making a quarterback switch. The Jets (1-5) had lost four straight under Fitzpatrick, who began the week with a league-high 11 interceptions.
