— -- AKRON, Ohio -- Daniel Berger hit exactly one shot at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Thursday morning -- and received $50,500 for his troubles.

Nice work if you can get it.

Berger hit a drive 307 yards down the first fairway before citing a shoulder injury as his reason for withdrawal.

Because he hit one shot in competition, Berger will receive unofficial last-place money as part of the 61-player, no-cut field. If he'd withdrawn without hitting a single shot, he wouldn't have earned any money, but the same amount would have been eligible for him to donate to charity.

Unlike many PGA Tour events, only exempt qualifiers may compete in the WGC-Bridgestone, which means no alternates were eligible to receive a spot in the field had Berger withdrawn prior to his tee time.
