Texas A&M lands QB Trevor Knight in transfer from Oklahoma

— -- Former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Trevor Knight has decided on transferring to Texas A&M for the 2016 season and says he is "extremely excited for the opportunity that Coach Sumlin and his staff have afforded me."

Knight, who graduated from Oklahoma in December, will be eligible to play immediately and will compete with Texas A&M sophomore Jake Hubenak for the Aggies' starting quarterback job.

"A dream come true. Those are the words that can be best used to describe the last four years of my life in Norman, Oklahoma," Knight said in a lengthy statement posted to Twitter. "As I look back on my time here, and all of my experiences I have been through as a Sooner, I can truly say that I was exactly where God wanted me to be."

Kevin Sumlin and the Aggies have been searching for quarterbacks recently with the departure of their top two signal callers, Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray, who both elected last month to transfer out of the program with Murray going to Oklahoma last month. That left Texas A&M thin at the position.

Knight, who quarterbacked the Sooners to an upset over Alabama in the 2013 Sugar Bowl, was beaten out for the starting job by Baker Mayfield this preseason.

A product of Reagan High School in San Antonio, Texas, Knight was once verbally committed to the Aggies as a high school recruit before eventually signing with Oklahoma in February 2012.

He played 24 games in three seasons at Oklahoma, starting 15, throwing for 3,424 yards, 25 touchdowns and 19 interceptions while rushing for 853 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Sooners (11-2) won the Big 12 and earned a berth in the College Football Playoff led by Mayfield before falling to Clemson 37-17 in the Capital One Orange Bowl.

Knight appeared in six games as a reserve, completing 22-of-40 passes for 305 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Aggies (8-5) started 5-0 before faltering down the stretch, losing five of their last seven games against FBS opponents. Hubenak made his first career start in the Aggies' 27-21 loss to Louisville in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl, throwing for 307 yards and two touchdowns.
