Top seeds ousted in first round

— -- MARSEILLE, France -- Past major champions Juan Carlos Ferrero and Thomas Johansson lost in the first round of the Open 13 tournament Tuesday. Ferrero, a former No. 1 who won the 2003 French Open, lost to Joachim Johansson 7-6 (4), 6-3. Thomas Johansson, the 2002 Australian Open champ, was upset by French qualifier Gilles Simon 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Simon and Joachim Johansson will meet in the second round. Another top player was eliminated when seventh-seeded Nicolas Kiefer lost 6-3, 6-2 to Karol Beck of Slovakia. In other first-round matches, Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic beat Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand 6-7 (5), 6-2, 7-6 (4), wild card Jerome Haehnel beat Jean-Rene Lisnard 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-4, and Greg Rusedski downed Michael Llodra 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-3.
