Uni Watch: Cummerbund look is shortcoming of 2016 NBA All-Star uniforms

The NBA will likely face similar commentary in February, as Adidas has revived the cummerbund template for the 2016 NBA All-Star Game, which will take place in Toronto on Feb. 14. The uniforms were unveiled Thursday.

The jerseys are more straightforward than the shorts, with a minimalist (some might say plain) design on the front and the Toronto skyline sublimated onto the back.

The most notable jersey element is the small Kia advertising patch on the upper-left chest -- the first corporate ad patch to appear on jerseys worn in an NBA game (although advertising has appeared for the past two seasons on the team jerseys players wear for the slam dunk competition). The league has made no secret of its desire to add corporate advertising to its regular-season game jerseys, but for now, the initiative is restricted to the All-Star Game.

Overall: Not a terrible jersey, which is what fans tend to fixate on, but the overall look, complete with the cummerbund shorts, makes this one of the league's weaker All-Star Game designs.

Paul Lukas has never worn a cummerbund (or cummerbund-style shorts). If you liked this column, you'll probably like his Uni Watch Blog, plus you can follow him on Twitter and Facebook.
