— -- CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Chattanooga defensive backs Quintez Smith and Jeff Phillips returned interceptions for touchdowns against Tennessee Tech on Saturday. And the Mocs offense punched in its lone touchdown in overtime to beat the Golden Eagles 30-23. Before Saturday, Chattanooga (1-0) hadn't returned an interception for a touchdown in two seasons. Smith scored on a 30-yard interception return at with 4:54 left in the first half and Chattanooga held a 13-7 lead at the half. Tech (0-1) scored on a 1-yard Stephen Britton run at the 10:07 mark in the third. Larry Shipp scored on a 65-yard pass play from Brent McNeal at 8:21 in the third. Tech failed to convert a two-point conversion but held a 20-13. With 1:11 left in the period, Phillips took an interception back 35 yards for a touchdown and the teams entered the final quarter locked 20-20. The teams traded field goals in the fourth quarter and went into overtime. Chattanooga's offense, which racked up 172 yards on the ground, finally put the game away by punching in a touchdown on a 2-yard run by Eldra Buckley.
