Week 7 fantasy winners and losers: Miller breaks out, Edelman falls short
— -- Here's who turned in strong fantasy performances in Week 7 and who left fantasy owners wanting more.
Winners
Lamar Miller, RB, Miami Dolphins: How good was Miller against the Texans? He scored 35 fantasy points in the first half. That ended up being his end-of-game total, as he didn't receive many touches the remainder of the afternoon. Still, Miller compiled the second-highest single-game fantasy total so far this season.
Jarvis Landry, WR, Miami Dolphins: Landry had never scored more than 17 fantasy points in a game -- and he'd only cracked double digits on five occasions. Landry put up 20 points in the first quarter on Sunday against the Texans, thanks to two early touchdowns, including a 50-yard catch and run.
Ryan Tannehill, QB, Miami Dolphins: Yes, Miami's skill players had quite a day, as the Dolphins jumped out to a 35-0 lead over the Texans. For his part, Tannehill started the game by completing 9 of 9 passes for 201 yards and four touchdowns, which translated to 24 fantasy points 16 minutes into the game. That alone tied for the fourth-best fantasy output of Tannehill's career. By the time he was finished, Tannehill had rewarded owners with 27 total points.
Todd Gurley, RB, St. Louis Rams: From Weeks 4-5, Gurley led the league with 305 yards rushing. But he was held under 20 fantasy points in each contest because he couldn't find the end zone. That changed on Sunday, as the rookie scored his first two NFL touchdowns and gained 163 yards from scrimmage. His 27 fantasy points bring his average over the last three weeks to 19.
T.J. Yeldon, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars: With two 20-plus carry games through five weeks, it was clear the Jaguars were comfortable with Yeldon carrying the load if game flow worked in his favor. The problem thus far had been touchdowns -- 81 carries and no scores. That changed for Yeldon on Sunday against the Bills, and subsequently, he turned in the best fantasy performance of his young career (17 points).
Mike Evans, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Evans scored an incredible 12 TDs as a rookie last season, but coming into the week, he'd been shut out so far in 2015. He finally got on the board on Sunday against the Redskins, and thanks to gaining 164 yards, he put up 22 fantasy points. That is Evans' highest total since his 32-point outburst in Week 11.
Mark Ingram, RB, New Orleans Saints: Ingram entered the week ranking 10th overall among running backs in fantasy points per game, but efficiency hadn't been his hallmark (3.49 yards per carry). On Sunday against the Colts, he gashed Indy for 143 rushing yards on 14 carries (10.2 ypc), while turning in his best fantasy performance this season (20 points).
T.Y. Hilton, WR, Indianapolis Colts: Hilton was on the losers portion of this list until catching two touchdown passes -- which totaled 133 yards -- in the third quarter. After scoring just 27 fantasy points in his previous three games, Hilton put up that same number against the Saints on Sunday.
Losers
Julian Edelman, WR, New England Patriots: Edelman had scored at least eight fantasy points in every game this season -- and his 13.6-point average entering this week ranked sixth among WRs. Despite nine targets, Edelman couldn't get much going against the Jets, scoring just five points.
DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Houston Texans: Hopkins' game-by-game fantasy line heading into this week: 23, 5, 16, 15, 16, 26. He got a healthy share of targets on Sunday against the Dolphins (12), but scored only five points.
Brandon Marshall, WR, New York Jets: Marshall hadn't been held under 12 fantasy points all season long, but in a high-scoring affair, the Patriots held him to 67 yards and six points. It was just the second time all season he failed to score a touchdown.
Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans Saints: The Colts held Brees to just 255 yards, which marked only the eighth time since 2013 that he failed to reach 260 in a game. He couldn't make up for it with a barrage of touchdowns, totaling just 12 fantasy points
