Baby Flamingos Pretty in Pink
On July 6, 2014, the Smithsonian's National Zoo welcomed the 100th and 101st flamingo chicks to hatch at the Bird House. The chicks are being hand-reared behind the scenes by keepers in a cozy 95-degree incubator. Flamingo chicks have a higher survival rate if they are hand-reared. The chicks will join the Zoo's flock of flamingos outside when they are older.
