The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), based at New York's Bronx Zoo, announced this week that efforts to protect a wildlife-rich coastal region in South America have paid off. The Argentinian government recently signed into law a new coastal marine park that will protect half a million penguins, including Magellanic penguins, shown in this photo. The region serves as a nesting and feeding ground for about a quarter million pairs of Magellanic penguins. (Graham Harris/Wildlife Conservation Society)
