— -- Stan Lee and the creative wizards at Marvel Comics have been responsible for some of the most prolific and timeless superheroes in the history of the art form. Spider-Man, Daredevil, the Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, Captain America, the X-Men, Thor and the list goes on and on.

In Marvel's video game, Ultimate Alliance from Activision, players get a chance to control their favorite heroes in a race to uncover a sinister plan by the infamous Doctor Doom and the Masters of Evil -- a team of supervillains the not-so-good doctor has brought together for nefarious purposes.

Wielding the powers of some of Marvels most-beloved figures, you'll form teams of up to four heroes to defeat your foes. They can be swapped out for other heroes via "checkpoints" where you can also save and make adjustments to your team. Watch your heroes' powers grow as you earn experience points and allocate them to the powers you think are most important.

The ability to take different paths to achieve a goal, unlock new heroes and play through missions that answer questions about the characters' back stories and climax with a fight to the finish against one of the heroes's arch enemies, gives the game serious replay ability.

If you get bored of playing by yourself, you can have up to four friends join you in person or online for a cooperative game in which you can play through the game's story line together. Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a well-executed, incredibly involved and just plain fun game for comic book fans and nonfans alike.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance is rated T for Teen and retails from $39.99 to $59.99, depending on the version. The game is available for Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, PC, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, PSP, Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360.
