Dec. 17, 2009— -- Military contractor Raytheon announced that it's developed an iPhone application for the battlefield. The application will send information to a central computer, which will keep troops up to date on the whereabouts of friends and enemies. Different units could communicate, just like friends on Facebook. The app would also provide real-time maps, similar to GPS, with points of interest like known sniper hideouts or safe positions.

Some people find walking while chewing gum tough enough, so how about walking and texting? That's getting easier, thanks to the new Type n Walk iPhone application. This app uses the iPhone's camera to show you what's in front of you. You won't walk right into a tree, because your screen will show you the tree even if you never look up from your iPhone. The app is designed to work with your other favorite apps, so you can text, tweet, email or update your Facebook status, all while cruising straight ahead.

Ford is stealing a page out of Apple's playbook. The automaker wants drivers to be able to upgrade the electronics in their vehicles, similar to the way they can with iPhone apps. The Wall Street Journal reports Ford is trying to get software developers to create programs for its Sync Entertainment and Communications System. The apps could potentially allow people to follow friends to a location using GPS or give directions to every coffee shop along a highway.

Topping YouTube's list of the year's biggest hits is someone you've almost certainly seen by now: Susan Boyle. Relive the moment the Scottish woman shocked the judges and the world on the show, "Britain's Got Talent." People have clicked on this video more than 120 million times worldwide. That's more hits than the next three most-watched videos got combined.
